Our own Q3 report puts it plainly: "The future of search isn't one platform. People aren't choosing one way to search; they're choosing what works for the moment." The data behind that line shows the AI answer was never the destination, it's the first step in a longer path.
ChatGPT still holds the largest share of regular use, but Claude and Gemini have both built real ground beneath it, and every AI tool we tracked scores within 1.5 points of each other on the one reason people actually use them: convenience, not accuracy, not trust. That's the first step. The second is verification: 24.6% of people say they still check the original source themselves even when using AI, and regular AI users are more likely to double-check than occasional users, not less. Confirmation is now a permanent part of the journey, not a trust problem waiting to be solved.
The next step is already forming, and this quarter's report also flags a new generation of agentic AI models built to act, not just answer, completing tasks and working across applications directly. Search isn't ending at the summary, it's extending into execution. If your strategy still assumes one platform, one answer, and a user who stops looking once they've got it, you're building for a step that doesn't exist anymore.
