I've always loved to write, whether it be poetry, song lyrics or academic assignments. I realised during my Business undergraduate degree that I could write to engage as well as inform, which is exactly what digital content needs. I worked as a more generalist digital marketing intern in Summer 2018, and was then invited back to write content for Reflect's various clients from many different industries.
I'm passionate because content writing is about assuming the personality of a client temporarily, writing effectively 'as them' rather than 'for them'. Reflect's clients are so passionate and talented in their respective industries, so the chance to help them get that message out to existing and prospective customers is a really fulfilling job.
The fact Reflect wanted me back was a nice feeling, but most of the other standout moments from my young, short career have been some creative events I have organised and won awards for. These include a sophisticated evening Ball for almost 200 students and directing two amateur dramatic musicals. Don't get me wrong though...getting content published on a client's website is pride-inducing.
My main passion in life is music. I play bass for a post-punk band called Turtle Circles and I am currently in the process of recording my debut 4-song EP. My dogs, Bert and Frank, are another source of great joy so walking them through the rolling Buckinghamshire hills when I go back home is one of my favourite things to do!
James's Likes & Dislikes
I absolutely love dogs and have three of my own back home in Buckinghamshire: Bert (Cavapoo, age 4), Frank (Tibetan Spaniel, 8) and Lucky (King Charles Spaniel, 10). I write this on my first day at Reflect Digital and the office dog Harry has already been on my lap to say hello so it’s definitely an office culture suited to my personality.
I also enjoy playing music, particularly singing, piano and classical guitar. Additionally, my father and I recently opened a vinyl record shop in our hometown, which is another reason I firmly intend to squeeze every last drop of knowledge from my Reflect Digital experience.
In terms of dislikes, I don’t have too many but find big, busy cities like London a little overwhelming. Perhaps also exams and cottage cheese – like, what is the point of it?!
